Bio: A native of the city in which his country’s National Anthem was inspired, Baltimore, Stuart has remained a Maryland resident for his 36 years. Stuart began seriously studying the intricacies of the guitar at age 16 and more recently has enjoyed playing and recording with many internationally recognized musicians, including Dennis Chambers, Mathew Garrison, Gary Granger, Paul Bollenback and others. However, life’s path often presents unexpected detours. So, while a music student at Towson State University during the late ‘80’s, Stuart’s ability to play guitar was temporarily impeded by what turned out to be an unwelcome case of “chronic tendonitis”. Complete recovery was to take many years. “Necessity being the mother of invention”, Stuart made the decision to study business and accounting during his healing years; a pursuit which culminated in his Bachelor’s Degree and his certification as a CPA. Following four years of practicing as a Certified Public Accountant, Stuart, applying his accumulated experience in business and finance, launched a mortgage corporation in 1994, which soon grew to a thriving brokerage with over seventy employees. By now, he had fully recovered from the tendonitis episode and was yearning to follow his continuing dream of creating and playing music and, hopefully, becoming a successful member of the music community.
Stuart recorded his first CD, which was released in the United States in 1998. This CD, entitled “Inner Voice’, contained a collection of entirely original Jazz Fusion arrangements. However, now married and soon to be a father and being removed from the touring scene for many years, Stuart realized that relying solely on composing and playing jazz for a living would not be a practical course. In 1999, Stuart happened to phone his long time friend (now partner) Steven Stern, to find out what he was up to. When Steven informed Stuart that he was preparing a license agreement pertaining to a piece of music, which he had placed in a major motion picture trailer, Stuart became quite interested and began to inquire further.
Well, as fate would have it, that is how Selectracks was born. Stuart’s extensive business experience along with his diverse knowledge and expertise in music combined with Steven’s promo, trailer, film and TV background set the foundation for a perfect partnership. Stuart made the fateful and final decision to leave his mortgage corporation behind in order to dedicate all his time and energy to the new full service music company working closely with his long time friend.
